Position: Chief Underwriter

Level: General Manager

Experience: 20 + years

Location: Mumbai

Desired Candidate Profile:

• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations.
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
• Preferable BE, B.Tech and (PG - Any PG Course - Any Specialization, MBA/PGDM, M.Tech), FIII Functions
• Management and supervision of Underwriting & Reinsurance Department and underwriting section of regional offices 

Policy introduction and maintenance :

• Underwriting Policy, Reinsurance Policy and Risk Management Policy drafting in line with IRDA 
• supervision and Board approval
• Rating strategy introduction and maintenance: 
• Rating strategy drafting in line with IRDA supervision and Board approval. 

Responsibilities:

• Monthly reporting and presentation at executive committee meeting and adhoc-based Committee of Directors and Board of Directors. Represent Underwriting, Reinsurance and Risk Engineering 
• Dept in other related depts.; i.e. Claims dept. and accounting aging meeting.
• Handle reporting on audit, self check and MIS. Handle external audit and IRDA / GIC enquiries.
• Represent UW/RI/ Engineering dept. in internal and external matters together with COO if it fits.
• Handle inquiries from other companies, reinsurers and reinsurance brokers. Risk Management
• Implement risk mitigation measures to close gaps and treat risk identified as stipulated in the Risk Management Manual.
• Set risk indicators benchmarks and monitor performance against set benchmarks.
• Revamp department manual to meet RMC requirements.
• Look out for new risk via flash risk reports.
• Report on new risks identified and progress of department on risk mitigation.
• Train and supervise all the subordinates of Underwriting and Reinsurance, Risk Engineering dept. to implementing the annual and midterm business strategy and target. 
• All other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
